Having an attitude of gratitude is focusing on what we have and finding contentment in it rather than complaining about what we don’t have. While growing up, people around me always said that it was good to give gratitude. They always told me that the more gratitude you give, the more happiness, contentment and abundance you will attract into your life. Fast forward to adulthood, I have learned to always give gratitude for the good things in my life and the not so good.
I give gratitude for the challenges I have faced in life as well as all the beautiful things I have in my life because if I have never faced such challenges in my, I might not appreciate the blessings in my life.
I have made it a habit to give gratitude for every blesssing in my life. I’ve learnt to also give gratitude for things which others might consider irrelevant due to our nature of self entiltlement. I give gratitude for being able to move my body, for having a roof over my head and for having clean water to drink. Sometimes, I sit down and ponder about my whole existence on planet earth and how beautiful the earth it. This act creates a great surge of gratitude in me to the point that my eyes well up with tears.
I have gone through a lot of hurdles in life which has shifted my perspective and view of life. Whenever I remember the challenges which I have faced and how far I have come in life I always give gratitude. I believe that my situation could have been worse but all in all I have been able to rise above all adversity and look up to hope.
Whenever I give gratitude, I always say a little prayer for others. I know that there are a lot of people who are struggling to find happiness, peace, contentment and love. Saying a little prayer for these people is an extension of gratitude. I am thankful for what I have and hope that others too will find what they need to make their life whole again.
Giving gratitude has opened my mind and taught me to be compassionate towards all living beings. I have realized that the more gratitude I give, the more my heart is open to receiving. Showing compassion is engaging in acts of kindness without expecting anything in return. Smiling at someone, saying words of encouragement, being a good listener and not judging others are all acts of compassion.
Showing compassion can make a great difference in the life of those whom these acts of compassion are directed towards. It’s always nice to show acts of compassion as much as possible because you’ll never know what others are going through. I know how other people’s random acts of compassion towards me have changed my perspective and entire day in the past.
Cultivating an attitude of gratitude has opened my mind to paying attention to everything around me and living with intention. Eversince I began living mindfully, I have become more aware of my environment. I see a lot of blessings around me which I never used to pay attention to or take for granted. Giving gratitude has helped me align with my truth and find myself in the process.
Living mindfully has put me on the path to finding true happiness. It has taught me to let go of things that will hinder me from reaching my higher purpose in life. I have learned how to let go of worries and anxiety and find joy in the present moment where happiness truly resides. Giving gratitude has made me fall in love with life all over again.
